Dining Room | Lounge | Mood Board
I have been dreaming and dreaming about the day we finally get to finish our basement, and let me tell you—I already have big plans. I want it to be the coziest yet swankiest space ever. Inviting, but still elegant. Casual, but make it chic. In my head, I’m envisioning a wet bar (or mini kitchen) with a small dining area tucked into the corner—because that wall looks like it has plumbing, and obviously I am basically a contractor now, right?! That corner layout makes it the perfect excuse for a banquette, which I’ve always wanted. Sadly, our actual dining room said “absolutely not” thanks to its layout, so this felt like my moment.
For this dining nook, I wanted a moody vibe—but here’s the plot twist: moody doesn’t have to mean dark. Moody decor is all about rich colors, layered textures, and dramatic lighting that create a cozy, intimate feel with just the right amount of sophistication. So that’s exactly what I leaned into. I love the contrast of the black-and-white thin striped wallpaper against the burgundy-and-white tile floors. Dusty blue is quickly becoming my new favorite color, and this velvet banquette pairs perfectly with the walls and floors. To tie in the black stripes, I added a circular black wood pedestal table, then finished it all off with moody framed artwork and polished brass wall sconces—because a little drama never hurt anyone.
